Can I be fined if I switch providers?

Yes, you may receive a cancellation fee if you switch to another contract too early. Whether you’ll be fined depends on the type and end date of your current contract.

If you currently have a variable or dynamic contract and want to switch, you won’t be charged a fee. However, if you have a fixed contract with an end date, you may be fined if you cancel it early. Your current supplier can charge a fee if they incur a financial loss due to your early termination.

You can always ask your energy supplier for the exact amount of the cancellation fee. This information is usually also available in your online customer account. Suppliers are required to provide this information.
